The Passport Kitchen

About Me

Welcome to The Passport Kitchen. I’m Amanda, a recovering travel blogger and a massive food enthusiast. Originally from the Bay Area of California, I spent nine years living in the food epicenter of the world — New York City — before spending three years traveling the world, spanning over 60 countries.

After tens of thousands of miles of travel logged, I eventually settled down in Bulgaria, picking up a Brazilian husband and happy taste-tester along the way — who has taught me that no food combination is unsacred and that authenticity is overrated in the pursuit of delicious food.

While I love and appreciate authentic food from around the world, especially street food, I also realize that it is difficult to replicate that around the world — especially when your corner of the world happens to be a post-communist country in Eastern Europe with a very small international community!

This blog was also started as a passion project to keep me sane during these trying times of isolation, so I’m working within the limits of my pantry and what I can safely get delivered to me — so my normally fast-and-loose grasp of authenticity will be even looser in these days when getting the exact right ingredients is even more difficult than usual.

If you love food from around the world, but you don’t necessarily have the time, resources, or willpower to source the perfect ingredients — The Passport Kitchen will be your gateway to the world through your kitchen!
