11 Dirty Rice Recipes to Add a Little ‘Sizzle’ to Your Dinner

Dirty rice is a classic dish in Cajun and Creole cuisine, often associated with Southern and Louisiana cooking.

It’s typically made with white rice that gets its dirty look and flavor from being cooked with ground meat (like pork, beef, or chicken), along with spices and vegetables (such as bell peppers, onions, and celery). The meat and seasonings give the rice a rich, savory taste and a slightly darker color, where the “dirty” phrase comes from.

The dish is often served as a side but can also be a main course. It’s super yummy, and if you want to try a dirty rice recipe, I’ve got some for you to try now!

Some of these are similar but with so many minor variations that make a huge difference!
