There could be a whole list of reasons why someone would want to opt for low-carb foods. It could be a matter of diet, controlling blood sugar levels, hunger levels, or simply watching your weight, as low-carb diets have proven to be more effective for weight loss or management than low-fat diets. Whatever your reason for choosing low-carb foods, it may seem like a daunting task to find delicious foods that are low-carb.

However, the good news is that there are plenty of low-carb foods that taste really good and won’t make you feel like you are missing out on anything. Read on to learn more about some of the most delicious foods that are either low-carb or contain no carbs at all!

Eggs are great because they are delicious, cheap, and contain practically almost no carbs. You can now swap your morning cereal or porridge for eggs, and you’ve already sorted one low-carb meal for the day.

2. Meat

Meats such as beef, lamb, chicken, and pork are all mostly zero-carb or very low-carb foods that will keep you full for long periods of time. They are, however, expensive and not great for your health when you consume too much of them, but they can definitely be consumed with at least one meal a day if you are trying to follow a low-carb diet.

3. Seafood

Most fish, such as salmon, trout, and sardines, contain zero carbs, whereas other fish and shellfish may be low-carb. The best part about these foods is that they are so delicious when cooked right, so really, you won’t be missing any carbs when you munch any well-prepared seafood.

4. Dairy

Who does not love a bit of cheese? Or milk, anybody? Luckily, these delicious dairy foods are pretty low in carbs, and most dairy foods rarely exceed 5% carbs unless you’re going for sweetened yogurt, which really should be avoided by anyone on a low-carb diet.

5. Vegetables

Whether you love your veggies or not, they are packed with all sorts of nutrients, and, as an added bonus, there are several of them that are low-carb. High-carb vegetables such as potatoes, sweet potatoes, carrots, and squash should be avoided on low-carb diets, but broccoli, cucumber, peppers, mushrooms, tomatoes, Brussels sprouts, cauliflower, and so much more are all relatively low-carb veggie options.

6. Fruits

Fruits can be high in carbs, but there are plenty of delicious fruits that are low carb, and they include but are not limited to berries, avocados, olives, citrus fruits, kiwis, and lemons.

7. Nuts and Seeds

Nuts and seeds are usually praised for their high (healthy) fats, fiber, protein, and various nutrients, and they are also considered low-carb. Nuts and seeds are great to munch on as a snack when you are feeling hungry, and they will keep you full for longer, thanks to high levels of fats and proteins.

8. Fats and Oils

Just because you are going for low-carb foods does not mean that you need to avoid fats and oils. Butter, olive oil, and other cooking oils are all zero-carb foods. They are, however, ultra-high in calories, so they should only make up a small part of anyone’s diet.
