7 Picture-Perfect Picnic Foods We Recommend Having in Your Basket

We don’t often recommend choosing food simply for the ‘Gram. But these seven gorgeous and gourmet picnic foods bring so much more to the table (or blanket) than just their good looks!

Sliced Fresh Fruit

What’s more naturally beautiful than a bowl of fresh fruit? It’s colorful, nutritious, and holds up well for a picnic! Go with freshly sliced melon and perfectly sliced berries, or mix everything together in a refreshing fruit salad. Toss in fresh mint, a drizzle of honey, and a small pinch of salt for a delight for the eyes and palate. If we’re going to suggest a particularly photogenic fruit, we’d say kiwi, watermelon, and fresh citrus are all excellent contenders.

Deviled Eggs

Deviled eggs are slightly more complicated to pack and keep if you’re going on a longer picnic. But if you aren’t going far, they’re an excellent finger food that looks very attractive when topped with chives and bacon. Switch it up and top yours with kimchi and togarashi; deviled eggs are versatile and look great with lots of different garnishes!

Tarts and Pastries

We’re not suggesting you have to make a bunch of pastries and tarts from scratch. That said, we love the idea of lots of fun mini cakes and treats as a part of the perfect picnic! You could make these yourself, but we recommend heading to a local patisserie or bakery and picking out a variety of photogenic pastries.

Charcuterie

The charcuterie board is the quintessential fancy picnic food! Dapple yours with a selection of crackers, meats, cheeses, pickled vegetables, nuts, and fruit spread to build something unique and attractive-looking. Charcuterie boards are in themselves their own little picnics, so toss in a bottle of wine and a blanket, and you’re set!

Crudites

Crudites is just a fancy term for fresh veggies. But cut them right, and you’ll see just how gorgeous a simple smattering of broccoli and carrots can be! Serve yours with a beautiful dip like baba ghanouj or hummus. Drizzle yours with things like high-quality olive oil, smoked paprika, or even pine nuts—if they say you eat with your eyes first, then the colors here are a veritable feast!

Fresh Lemonade

Don’t forget the drinks! A pitcher of homemade lemonade, perhaps with a twist of mint or berries, can be incredibly refreshing. Not only does it quench your thirst, but it also adds a nostalgic touch to your picnic. You can prepare it in advance and store it in a thermos to keep it cool. And not that it’s necessary, but lemonade is particularly thirst-quenching with a splash of vodka if that’s your thing.

Pesto Pasta Salad

Pasta salad is another picnic staple, but it can look dull and stale. Pesto pasta salad with fresh pecorino, toasted breadcrumbs, and plump cherry tomatoes is nothing of the sort! It’s relatively easy to throw together with only a few ingredients. But even better, it’s a vegetarian option that’s nice and filling, as well as a fantastic accompaniment to many other picnic faves.

Managing diabetes doesn’t have to be challenging. Eliminating these fruits from your diet can help you better control your blood sugar levels and manage diabetes. Consume other diabetic-friendly fruits like raspberries, blackberries, avocados, green apples, and kiwis to get essential minerals and vitamins.
