We talk a lot about food, both on this blog and on the Internet in general.

Every social media is filled to the brim with pictures, recipes, cooking hacks, and so much more food content. But whether you’re a food enthusiast or trying to get your food business off the ground, here are seven things that’ll help you navigate the food world on social media to make the most of it.

Focus on Visuals

It’s kind of ironic to talk about how important pictures are in a blog, but it’s true: visual appeal is massively important in the food world! Consider learning about food styling techniques to make your recipes even more appealing and rake in those likes.

Strike a Balance With Trends

Trends come and go—don’t hitch your wagon to one, or you’ll be gone with it. It’s not like you can’t participate in trends at all; staying up to date on current trends will help you create relevant content. But it’s important to find balance between current and evergreen content, especially when it comes to growing your brand.

Hashtags Are Delicious

Maybe you’re a baker or a chocolatier or someone who likes to recreate fast food items at home. Whatever your niche is, there’s a hashtag for it that will help people find you. Know which ones resonate with your content to help reach a broad audience. You can also use trending hashtags, but be mindful you’re using ones that are still relevant to your content.

Show and Tell With Video

Video content like cooking demonstrations or behind-the-scenes glimpses into your process is all the rage. It helps your audience learn more about what you have to say and provide. Try different formats and expand your horizons; there are many ways to tell your story through food, and playing around with editing or lighting can help you carve out a space in this saturated social media field.

Be a Storyteller

People love a good story. Have something to say when you post—something that shows them who you are. Food is especially personal, so if you have a good story about your recipe, share! Incorporate anecdotes, cultural significance, or even the challenges you faced while creating a dish to make your content more relatable and engaging.

Collaborate!

Find like-minded individuals and reach out to them about collaboration! You can help each other grow with joint cooking sessions or creating new recipes together. It’s always good to find your community, but it’s even better if you’re trying to grow your presence on social media.

Make The Kind of Content You Want to Consume

Probably the most important tip for those who want to post food content is to stay true to yourself. Make content that you would want to watch, see, or read. If something doesn’t feel authentic, even if it could benefit your account or brand in the long run, then it’s probably not for you. For example, why bother posting about a viral margarita recipe if you focus on making homemade sushi? Go with your gut—it’s the one thing that can’t steer you wrong when it comes to food!
