5 Things You Didn’t Know You Could Make with an Immersion Blender

An immersion blender is a popular kitchen tool capable of making the creamiest soup in mere seconds. But what else can you prepare with one?

Here are five things you might be surprised to learn are much easier to make with your new immersion blender—or as an excuse to pull yours out from storage!

Homemade Mayonnaise

A fresh batch of mayonnaise sounds like a chore if you’re doing it by hand. It’s the complete opposite with an immersion blender; make your own mayonnaise and flavored aiolis in mere seconds with this kitchen gadget! Just combine egg yolks, mustard, vinegar, any other ingredients for flavor (we love garlic or sriracha—or both!) and a pinch of salt in a tall container. Slowly drizzle in your favorite oil while blending until you reach the consistency you want, and get ready to have the best mayo of your life.

Super Smooth Hummus

You can certainly make delicious hummus with a blender. But if you’re after that beautifully buttery consistency, you’ll need an immersion blender to make it happen. Combine canned chickpeas, tahini, lemon juice, garlic, and olive oil in a tall container. Blend until smooth, adjusting the consistency with water as needed. Not only is homemade hummus tastier than store-bought options, but you can also experiment with flavors by adding roasted red peppers, herbs, or spices.

Nut Butters

Making your own nut butter at home can be a breeze with an immersion blender. Gone are the days of spending $15 on premier pistachio butter—just use fresh nuts whenever you’d like. Add a drizzle of honey and a pinch of salt to elevate the nutty flavors or combine them with other nuts for something totally unique. Remember to use roasted nuts or roast them yourself to get the most from those flavors. It might not be cheaper than grocery store peanut butter, but there’s no way you won’t think this homemade butter is just better in every way.

The Perfect Souffle Omelettes

Hosting brunch and need something to impress your guests? You’ll get a round of applause for the pillowy and delightful souffle omelet. And with your immersion blender, making them has never been simpler. Start by blending eggs, a splash of milk, and your choice of seasonings until frothy. Pour the mixture into a hot non-stick skillet, and watch it puff up. Fill with your choice of meat, veg, and/or cheese, and enjoy the airiest egg dish you’ll ever have.

Creamier Than Ever Salad Dressings

One of the best ways to save money on your grocery shop is to make salad dressings at home. Yet many cooks are frustrated because they can’t seem to replicate that trademark creaminess you get from the bottled versions. That’s where the immersion blender steps in again—to turn the most basic of vinaigrettes to a restaurant-quality dressing you’ll want to enjoy on everything.

Interested in some homestyle ranch? Combine yogurt or sour cream, herbs, garlic, and your choice of seasonings (garlic powder and onion powder are a must) in a tall container, and blend until smooth.
