Are you tired of the same old green tea with lemon? It’s time to let the Lipton packets go and try out one of these six unique teas the next time you’re craving an afternoon pick-me-up.

Matcha

Okay, we know we just talked about how yawn-inducing green tea can be, but matcha is a different story! Matcha is a finely ground powder of specially grown and processed green tea leaves. Unlike traditional green tea, where the leaves are steeped and then discarded, with matcha, you consume the whole leaf. This means you’re getting a more potent dose of its nutrients and antioxidants.

Matcha is also packed with L-theanine, an amino acid that promotes relaxation without drowsiness, making it the perfect companion for your morning routine or an afternoon pick-me-up. Many people also enjoy matcha as a latte, and some use elaborate equipment to make their morning or afternoon matcha a full-blown ceremony.

If you’re looking to cut back on caffeine but still want a flavorful and beneficial drink, rooibos (pronounced roy-boss) might be your new best friend. This South African red tea is naturally caffeine-free and brimming with antioxidants.

Rooibos has a rich, earthy flavor with hints of sweetness, making it a delightful choice for any time of day. It’s delightful with pastries, so don’t hesitate to help yourself to a biscuit (cookie) or two as you imbibe!

Those who can’t decide if they want something strong or something soft should help themselves to a cup of oolong. Caught between the robust flavor of black tea and the delicate notes of green tea, oolong offers the best of both worlds.

It’s a partially fermented tea that has a complex flavor profile that can range from sweet and floral to rich and toasty. Oolong tea is also known for its metabolism-boosting properties, which can aid in weight management.

It’s refreshing, light, and floral—perfect to round out the tea cabinet you’re building with the three teas we’ve already highlighted! The flavor isn’t very overpowering, but sometimes that lightness is exactly what you need.
