7 Ways to Use Avocado in Your Cooking (That You Probably Haven’t Tried Yet)

Avocados are everywhere, but should they go in everything? We say yes! Here are seven new ways to revitalize your love for avocados (not that most of us needed that).

Ice Cream

Avocado enthusiasts might have already seen this one coming; the creaminess from this fruit just makes sense turning it into something similar to ice cream. Make your own by blending perfectly ripe avocados with coconut milk, a bit of honey or agave syrup, and a splash of lime juice. Freeze the mixture, and you’ll have a delightful treat that’s both indulgent and nutritious.

Pasta Sauce

You could use avocados to make a creamy, dairy-free pasta sauce. Blend them up with some garlic, lemon juice, olive oil, and a handful of fresh basil. Toss this sauce with your favorite pasta and residual pasta water for a quick, satisfying meal that’s packed with the healthy fats avocado is famed for.

Brownies

We’re back to dessert with avocado brownies! It’s another one that just makes sense when you think about it; just substitute butter or oil with mashed avocado in your favorite brownie recipe. The result is a moist, fudgy brownie that’s lower in saturated fats but doesn’t skimp on flavor or creaminess. Plus, avocados add a subtle richness that pairs perfectly with chocolate and doesn’t overwhelm the brownie.

Hummus

Give your traditional hummus a twist by adding an avocado. Blend chickpeas, tahini, avocado, lemon juice, garlic, and a touch of cumin. The creamy texture and vibrant green color will make this a standout dip at any party. It’s also an excellent hack if you need to make lots of hummus and want to stretch it further; use up the ripe avocado to beef up your portion size!

Deviled Eggs

Mayo is the traditional creamy element in deviled eggs, but there’s no reason you can’t swap that out for mashed avocado and get a similarly delicious dish! Mix the avocado with egg yolks, a bit of mustard, and your favorite seasonings (just never skimp on the pickle or relish, please!). This modern take on a classic appetizer is not only delicious but also more heart-healthy.

Pizza

Stay with us—yes, avocado is incredible as a pizza topping! After baking your pizza, add sliced avocado along with fresh arugula and a drizzle of balsamic glaze. It plays nicely with the creaminess of the sauce and cheese while still being a healthier option. We’d also say that you could skip the cheese and sauce entirely and eat a pizza with only these toppings, but we’ll let you decide whether that’s blasphemous or not.

Salad Dressing

You’ve probably already seen avocado-based salad dressings at your grocery store before, but did you know they were so easy to make at home? A good example would be to blend an avocado with Greek yogurt, lime juice, cilantro, and a bit of garlic. This dressing is creamy, tangy, and perfect for drizzling over salads or using as a dip for veggies. Skip the dairy altogether and swap in some olive oil to thin out your avocado if you’d prefer.
