There are plenty of delicious unhealthy foods on the market that are the guilty pleasure of large swaths of the population.

However, there are also a lot of healthy foods that can taste even better than those unhealthy choices. The next time unhealthy fare beckons, you might think about trying one of these foods instead. 

Watermelons

After a great meal, you may be thinking about a sugary dessert. Watermelon makes a great sugary dessert that is also full of nutrients and low-calorie. It’s better than many unhealthy desserts and doesn’t cost much. 

Cashews

This one isn’t as low calorie, but they do have nutrition such as protein and healthy fats. Cashews are a treat that is great for a snack, as dessert, or even as a part of your meal.

Homemade Bread

Bread made from simple ingredients at home always tastes better than the chemical-laden bread available at the grocery store. Fresh bread can be made with healthier ingredients to deliver good nutrition without too much sugar. 

Tangerines

These are as sweet as candy and far better for you. There’s a reason that people get excited when tangerines are in season. They deliver a lot of vitamins as well as fiber along with their amazing taste. 

Strawberries

The sweetness and tanginess of strawberries is unmatched anywhere else. Don’t settle for unhealthy strawberry-flavored foods when you can have the real thing and get vitamins at the same time.

Hear me out- it may not taste as great at first, but the palate soon adjusts to it. After drinking back coffee for a while, you will love the rich taste of the beans that isn’t masked by sugar and cream. 

Roasted Chickpeas

These are a fantastic way to get both nutritionally dense food and great-tasting food at the same time. Chickpeas can be roasted with a number of natural ingredients like spices to create an amazing dish.

These have an amazing tangy flavor that’s better than a lot of sweet, unhealthy dishes. Pineapples can also be served in a number of ways from freeze-dried to grilled to cater to your specific taste.

This is such a simple food that has just a few ingredients, especially if you make it at home, but it has unparalleled flavor. It’s a high-protein snack that is far healthier than many of the snacks on the market. 

Guacamole

Guacamole tends to have few ingredients, and it’s even better when it’s made from scratch. People love avocados, and they love the taste and texture of guacamole more than many less-healthy snacks.

If you’ve been unimpressed with the way boiled broccoli without seasoning tastes, you’re missing the best way to make this dish. Seasoned, sauteed broccoli can be an amazing side dish that rivals any unhealthy fare. 

Frozen Fruit

If you think you can’t get off the ice cream train, frozen fruit may just do it. Frozen fruit has a great texture and sweetness, and it cools you down just like ice cream without having a lot of empty calories. 

Brussels Sprouts

Roasted, sauteed, or grilled Brussels sprouts are what many people would rather have than an unhealthy side dish. These little sprouts have an earthy flavor and a great texture and are low-calorie and nutritious.
