A lot of people aren’t that imaginative or daring when it comes to food choices. This keeps them in the dark about so many simple food combos that can totally change a regular old meal.

It can be something on a restaurant menu, a tip on the internet, or some other source, but some people experience a moment where they learn of one such combo, try it, and are totally amazed. If you’re curious for ideas, read on!

1. Fresh Dill on a Tuna Sandwich

Canned tuna turned into a sandwich is about as basic as it gets. For a game-changer that’s ridiculously easy to apply, try adding fresh dill to your sandwich. You may never go back.

2. Tarragon

This is among the most underrated herbs. People rave about the results when adding fresh tarragon to fruit, eggs, salads, and more.

3. Fish Sauce

Add some to your next beef stew; you’ll be glad you did. People also love adding it to chili, deviled eggs, and spaghetti sauce.

4. Popcorn in Soup

Tired of crackers? Try this combo. It’s not as crazy as it sounds; in fact, it’s quite popular in some parts of South America. Like crackers, popcorn also helps soak up broth in soups that are too watery.

5. Tomato and Pickle With Grilled Cheese

No one thinks twice about a tomato and pickle with a cheeseburger, so why not add them to grilled cheese? Those who are in the know get it and love it.

6. Summer Sausage and Apple Jelly

Make a sandwich with them. They sound about as different as can be, but if you like both on their own, you’ll probably love them together.

7. Lemon Stick

This might not be great for your teeth, but it’s delicious. Take a porous peppermint stick and put it into a lemon half. Then suck out the juice.

8. Salt on Watermelon and Ice Cream

Maybe it sounds just plain wrong, but give it a try. It creates an amazing contrast and enhancement that you may very well come to love.

9. Cocktail Sauce Instead of Ketchup

There’s no law that cocktail sauce is only for shrimp and other seafood. Try it as a dipping sauce for steak, fries, or fresh vegetables. It’s delicious.

10. Black Pepper and Strawberries

You might think the spiciness of the former would clash with the sweetness of the latter. That thinking is wrong, at least for a lot of people who swear by this combo.

11. Kimchi With Mac & Cheese

People add all kinds of things to liven up their mac & cheese. Kimchi is probably not one that comes to mind too much, but it’s awesome if you like both. It’s also great with grilled cheese sandwiches.

12. Apple Pie and Sharp Cheddar Cheese

Many people love both of these, but few ever think to combine them. Try it; “heavenly” is a common description when people share their experiences with this combo on the internet.

13. Ranch Seasoning With Potatoes

People love ranch as a salad dressing and a dip, so it’s not too crazy that people use it with mashed or baked potatoes. There are even stories of people who hate ranch but love this.

14. Peanut Butter and Bacon Sandwich

Bacon goes with just about anything. Adding it to a classic peanut butter sandwich shouldn’t really come as much of a shock.
