Listen, we all want to eat healthy foods, but there are some delicious foods that aren’t very healthy and are just so good. Everything is ok in moderation but some of these foods are so unhealthy for you that it’s probably better to keep them out of your grocery cart and away from your pantry.
They might be delicious and even somewhat passable for special occasions, but they definitely shouldn’t be a regular item on your menu.
Most people will likely want to avoid these twelve things at the grocery store to keep themselves healthy and spend money on healthier items.
1. Processed Meats
Deli meat, bacon, and hot dogs are all examples of processed meats that contain lots of sodium and nitrates. Excessive sodium consumption isn’t great, but nitrates have been linked to certain types of cancer, making them incredibly unhealthy.
2. Soda
Soda doesn’t have many redeeming qualities; it’s full of sugar, contains virtually no nutrients, and doesn’t do much other than contribute to weight gain and potentially cause chronic illness.
3. Margarine
Trans fats are unhealthy, so any grocery store item with them should be avoided. Many margarine brands have since removed trans fats from their products, but those who still have it are among the most unhealthy options.
4. Potato Chips
Part of the reason potato chips are so unhealthy is because of their addictive nature. It’s bad enough that they contain large quantities of sodium and fat; even worse, the flavors have been engineered to make your brain desperately want more.
5. Instant Noodles
Instant noodles might be a quick, inexpensive lunch or snack hack. Still, the packets contain some of the most shocking amounts of sodium you’ll ever see on the packaging.
6. Frozen Treats
Frozen ice cream treats are high in sugar and saturated fats. While they might have some redeeming qualities thanks to the dairy, they’re still easily one of the unhealthiest things you can buy.
7. White Bread
White bread doesn’t contain any of the benefits of whole-grain bread. Not only that, but refined carbs can cause your blood sugar to spike. Without much in terms of fiber or nutrients, it’s hard to justify adding white bread to your cart if you’re trying to eat healthily.
8. Breakfast Cereals
Some breakfast cereals are considerably worse than others, and we’d imagine you can guess which ones are the problem. Sugary breakfast cereals don’t provide much nutritional benefits. However, other breakfast cereals low in sugar or fortified aren’t nearly as bad and can be a part of a balanced diet.
9. Microwave Popcorn
Popcorn can actually be a healthy snack if made correctly. Microwave popcorn can’t — there’s often way too much salt and fat, and the chemicals in the bag have been linked to causing potential health issues.
10. Energy Drinks
Energy drinks are extremely unhealthy, often containing too much caffeine and sugar that can cause you to crash later on in the day.
11. Frozen Pizza
Some frozen pizzas are better than others; it often depends on the toppings and the crust. But if we’re talking about the average frozen pizza, there’s nothing there other than fat, salt, and way too many calories.
12. Candy
It’s probably obvious, but candy isn’t a fantastic choice for those who want to stay healthy. Candy’s high sugar content can be problematic for weight gain and other health problems, but it also causes dental issues if you consume it too often.
4 Foods Linked to Memory Loss
We cherish our memories. And now, more than ever, we seek to preserve our mental health as much as our physical health. Because of that, many people are learning about how their lifestyle affects how their brains and body behave. Becoming a happier, healthier individual can often be attainable with enough tweaks to a person’s diet or exercise regimen.
