Are you bored with the basic pepperoni and sausage? Pizza doesn’t have to be same-old, same-old. It’s time to start having a little fun with your toppings for pizza night.

You’re in luck—we’re unearthing eight pizza toppings you probably wouldn’t usually reach for but absolutely should if you’re looking for something special!

Prosciutto

Those of you who prefer pork products on your pizza, rejoice: prosciutto is an excellent addition to any pie! Plus, you can either crisp it and add it to the pie or drape it over the top fresh out of the oven. Add some lightly dressed arugula and a drizzle of balsamic reduction, and you’ll be in pizza heaven.

Arugula

Let’s talk more about arugula because adding salad to the top of your pizza is extremely underrated! Arugula’s peppery crunch is ideal for a simple, no-frills pizza; simply toss it with olive oil, salt, and pepper and add it to a slightly cooled pie. Shave some large curls of parmesan to finish, and you basically have two meals in one!

Artichoke Hearts

Artichoke hearts don’t necessarily add complexity to your pizza, but they can if marinated in oil and herbs. Regardless, they make an incredible topping thanks to their buttery texture and can help you get your daily dose of veggies without defaulting to your typical mushroom or onion.

Pesto

You can either top your pizza with pesto or use it as the base; either way, you’ll be glad you did. Pesto is a herby, salty, nutty delight that can completely transform the flavor profile of a pizza. Pesto pies work exceedingly well with tangier toppings like feta or artichoke hearts, so we recommend trying those if you’re using them as your base.

Sun-Dried Tomatoes

Pizza wouldn’t be where it is now without tomatoes, but how often are you seeing sun-dried tomatoes on a slice? We wish it was more often because these juicy umami bombs are incredible to bite into on pizza night! To achieve the right balance, they work exceptionally well with sauces that aren’t tomato-based, like olive oil and garlic or pesto.

Shrimp

Some people aren’t huge fans of seafood and cheese together, but those who don’t mind mixing your surf and turf are in for a delight. We highly recommend adding shrimp to pizza as your protein but also suggest keeping the rest of the toppings minimal; a simple pie with shrimp, tomato sauce, mozzarella, and fresh garlic will do just fine.

Figs

Figs are phenomenal when paired with pork products like prosciutto or bacon. In fact, we’d say take that prosciutto pie from the top of the list and add some figs if you have them lying around for a sweet but mellow kick—you won’t be sorry you did.

Blue Cheese

Cheese is an absolute staple on most pizzas, but it’s usually relegated to the mozzarella, ricotta, or parmesan variety. If you want something on the funkier side, blue cheese might do the trick. Remember that blue cheese is tangy, salty, and bold, so you want to balance that out with something sweeter and maybe even slightly floral. Figs are starting to sound like a pretty good pairing again!

Refrigeration prevents spoilage and may extend the shelf life of common foods and other perishable items. While we may innocently store some foods in the refrigerator, you may be surprised that you shouldn’t store all of them, as this may affect their nutritional value, taste, and texture.

Although refrigeration can help preserve certain foods, some items shouldn’t be refrigerated to maintain flavor and freshness. Avoiding these foods can ensure your food stays nutritious, fresh, and flavorful.
