You want to eat better so you can feel better. But you just don’t know how to fit things like food prep and meal planning into your schedule. We’ve got you covered with these seven tips for eating cleaner even when you’re swamped.

Make Meal Prep a Ritual

You CAN make time for meal prep—you just have to find time for it and commit to it. Even dedicating an hour or so a week to food prep can make it so much easier for you to eat better. Prep ready-to-grab things, like veggie sticks or hard-boiled eggs, so that you have something healthy to eat even on days where you’re running out the door.

Always Have Healthy Snacks Ready

Buy healthy snacks that you actually WANT to eat. Stock up on things like nuts, fresh fruit, and Greek yogurt. These options are nutritious and portable—a match made in heaven for today’s busy professional. Toss them in your bag or keep them at your desk, and you’ll be less tempted to hit the vending machine for a bag of chips.

Embrace the Smoothie

Smoothies are pillars of the clean eating community. You can blend everything together and drink it up for a quick nutritional punch. You can even prep smoothie bags in advance—just toss your ingredients in a freezer bag, and when you’re ready, blend and go! They aren’t always the most original thing to add to your clean eating routine. But if the goal is to eat healthier with limited time, you really can’t do better than adding a daily smoothie.

Use Your Freezer

Stock your freezer with more frozen fruits and veggies (you’ll probably do this regardless if you want to go the smoothie route). They’re picked at peak ripeness and flash-frozen, which means they retain their nutrients and their flavor. If time is a concern for you but still want to eat healthy, then things like microwavable edamame or frozen broccoli are both incredible assets to help keep your diet in check.

Plan Meals That Make Sense With Your Schedule

If you’re someone with an ever-changing schedule, embrace the fact that there isn’t a one-size-fits-all approach to your meal planning. Consult your schedule first and be realistic about what you can achieve. You can tackle more complex recipes on days you have more time and make those busy days easier by getting food ready for your future self.

Choose One Pot or One Pan Meals

Look for recipes that allow you to cook everything in one vessel. Sheet pan dinners, stir-fries, or slow cooker meals can be lifesavers. You’ll get a balanced meal without the hassle of washing every single pot and pan in your kitchen.

Keep Yourself Hydrated
