Think you’ve already heard of the cooking hacks out there? While you might know about some of these, we guarantee that at least one or two of these seven cooking hacks are bound to change your time in the kitchen for good—meaning you’ll be spending LESS time in there!

Peeling Garlic With a Jar

Peeling garlic can be a sticky and frustrating task. Try this simple trick: separate the cloves and place them in a jar. Secure the lid and shake vigorously for about 20 to 30 seconds. The friction will cause the skins to loosen and fall off, leaving you with perfectly peeled garlic cloves and stick-free fingers!

Resurrecting Stale Bread

Stale bread is (mostly) unusable, but what if there was a way to bring it back to life? There is! Sprinkle the loaf lightly with water and then pop it into a 300°F oven for about 10 minutes. The moisture and heat will rejuvenate the bread, making it soft and crusty once again.

Perfectly Poached Eggs Every Time

Poaching eggs is something even seasoned home cooks get nervous about. But adding just a splash of vinegar to the water can produce egg-cellent results! Adding a teaspoon of white vinegar to the boiling water before you drop in the eggs helps the egg whites coagulate more quickly, ensuring they stay intact and create that perfect, Instagram-worthy poached egg.

Prevent Boiling over With a Wooden Spoon

Cooking is often full of distractions. Get too distracted and you’ll have a pot of water boiling over—unless you put a wooden spoon over it first. The wooden spoon will help break the surface tension of the bubbles so they won’t spill over. It’s a small tip, but one that can save you rushing over to the stove to do damage control.

Grate Cold Butter for Baking

If you’ve ever tried to cut cold butter into flour for baking, you know it can be a cumbersome task. Instead of struggling with cubes of butter, try grating it using a cheese grater. This technique creates small, uniform pieces that are easier to incorporate into your dough or batter. This hack is especially useful for making pie crusts or scones, where cold butter is essential for achieving that signature flaky texture.

Use Your Muffin Tin for Meatballs

Getting perfectly round and evenly cooked meatballs can be a challenge. A muffin tin provides the perfect solution. Simply place your formed meatballs into the cups of a standard muffin tin and bake in the oven. This method ensures that each meatball cooks evenly and retains its shape—no more flipping over halfway, either!

Preserve Fresh Herbs by Freezing Them in Olive Oil

Fresh herbs can elevate a dish, but they often go bad before you have a chance to use them all, especially since they often come in such large quantities. To preserve their freshness, chop your herbs and place them in an ice cube tray. Fill each compartment with olive oil and freeze. When you’re ready to use them, simply pop out a cube and add it directly to your pan or pot.
