7 Hacks for Getting Dinner on the Table Before You Hear ‘I’m Hungry!

Cooking dinner is a hard enough task, as it may take some time and, most importantly, energy after a long day. Therefore, most people may want to get the chore of cooking done faster.

Luckily, there are many ways to speed up this thing we do everyday. A few simple strategies are perhaps all it takes to reduce the time spent slaying away behind a stove. Read on to learn more about how you can get dinner on the table faster.

Have a Plan

Having a plan ready before you actually start cooking can really help you to save time while cooking dinner. It may be as simple as setting up a meal plan for the week every Sunday so that you will know exactly what’s going to be cooked and if you have all the adequate ingredients for the dishes you wish to make. If there’s something you want to make that week but you don’t have all the right ingredients, then at least you will have time to do a grocery run before you cook the meal.

Keep the Pantry Stocked

Keeping your pantry stocked with all the nonperishable basics and staples that can be used to cook a great deal of versatile meals is always a good idea. For example, you’ll probably want to ensure that you always have rice, pasta, canned vegetables, and beans on hand so that if you ever find yourself with no plan, you know you can always use whatever you have stocked to whip up a last-minute dinner.

Read the Recipe Twice

If you are going to be cooking something from a recipe, then be sure to read the recipe twice before starting. This way, you get to fully familiarize yourself with the dish that lies ahead.

Stick to Simple Recipes

When you really want to get a dish done as fast as possible, the best way to go is probably to opt for a meal you are familiar with. Save the new recipes for a moment when you have more time and feel less rushed to get dinner on the table, such as on a weekend evening.

Prep On Weekends

If you are going to be making a dishes in the week that lies ahead that include foods that can be prepared ahead then why not start prepping on a Sunday? For example, you can chop up vegetables, wash lettuce, marinade meat and even cook some brown rice.

Cut Meat Thinner Before Cooking

Thinner cuts of meat will cook a lot faster than thick cuts, and for this reason, it’s always a good idea to try to get meat into smaller pieces before you start cooking it.

Be Mindful of First Steps

Before you start cooking anything that requires the oven or boiling water, you should always turn the oven on or get the water boiling before you start with any other steps in your cooking process. This can save a lot of time, and while you wait for these to heat up, you can get cracking with whatever else you have to prepare.
